I choose the name “Keeping the faith” for a few reasons. Most of the reasons came from reading scripture:
Hebrews 12.1-2 “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. 2Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
I Corinthians 9.23-25
“I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings. Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.”
During college I saw a number of fellow students walk away from the faith. It was a hard and sad time to see them choose a path of destruction over the way of life. When I returned back home, I can only think of two of my many friends from high school who are truly walking with the Lord. The rest have turned to alcohol, lust of the flesh and mass of “religious experiences and views”.
That is why it is called “Keeping the Faith” because the most important thing about this life is fearing the Lord and keeping his commandments – loving him with all life we he has us to give him. Running with endurance and keeping the faith that is set before us is life.
